Do Library Ladders Require Assembly?Updated a year ago

Bookcase ladders are versatile and functional pieces of furniture that add both style and utility to any space. However, a common query is whether these ladders require assembly.

Understanding Assembly Requirements

The library ladders come in various sizes, whether it's a standard stocked ladder or a made to measure. All of the ladders require assembly upon delivery, and arrive in multiple pieces, including the ladder strings (the sides), steps, a hand rung for the top of the ladder, along with your chosen hardware, rails and the assembly instructions. If you need a digital copy of the instructions you can download installation instructions here.

What to Expect During Assembly

When you receive your library ladder, it will be un-assembled and unfinished. This means you can apply a finish of your choosing, such as a paint, stain or lacquer for your ladder.  The assembly of the ladder and hardware involves tools such as a drill, 1/4 inch drill bit, sandpaper, a spirit level, 5mm allen key, screwdrivers, and wood glue. The fitting of the rails at height, will likely require two people, to safely execute the fitting.

Step-by-Step Assembly Guide

  1. Read the Instructions: Before diving into assembly, carefully read through the provided instructions. Familiarise yourself with the different components and steps involved in putting the ladder together. Download installation instructions

  3. Follow the Sequence: Assembly instructions typically outline a specific sequence of steps to follow. It's essential to adhere to this sequence to ensure proper alignment and stability.

  4. Secure the Hardware: Use the provided hardware (screws, bolts, etc.) to connect the various components securely. Tighten the fasteners appropriately, but be careful not to over-tighten, which could damage the materials.

  5. Check for Stability: Once the ladder is fully assembled, and fitted onto the rail perform a thorough inspection to ensure stability and structural integrity. Test the ladder's weight-bearing capacity by applying gentle pressure.

  6. Clean Up: After completing the assembly, tidy up your workspace by disposing of any packaging materials and tools. Wipe down the ladder with a clean cloth to remove any dust or debris.
