How to Measure for a Ladder?Updated a year ago

Choosing the right ladder involves more than just eyeballing its size against the task at hand. Proper measurements ensure safety and efficiency. Here’s a guide to measuring for your ladder:

1. What is the Rail Height?

The rail height is crucial for determining the right ladder size. It refers to the vertical distance from the floor to the centre of where you intend to mount the ladder rail. Measure this accurately to ensure a secure fit.

2. What is the Ladder Length?

Ladder length refers to the size of one side of the ladder. For instance, when we talk about an 8ft ladder, we're referring to the length of the side of the ladder. However, note that the rail height for an 8ft ladder is typically around 2311mm. Understand the distinction between ladder length and rail height for precise measurements.

3. Clearances

Consider the clearance needed for the ladder to function safely. When in the climbing position, the ladder will protrude above the rail. Allow sufficient clearance, typically around 8cm, if there are upper cabinet doors or other obstacles you need to clear.

By accurately measuring the rail height, ladder length, and necessary clearances, you can select a ladder that fits your needs perfectly, ensuring both safety and functionality. For the full article click the link here.
